The best words are like windows opening on a new view of the world. We can hear too much of other people’s opinions, but a well-chosen phrase can be worth saving.

As I’ve been writing these posts for 2nd Opinion, I’ve noticed how much they rely on short citations in Dutch from the original sources. These snippets, partial quotes and abbreviated extracts do the heavy lifting in my digests of media comment and opinion. They lend authenticity and flavour - bearing witness to the depths, the shallowness, the narrowness and variety on the front lines of Dutch media.
